ZONE 9 SPEAKOUT

The zone speakout was held in New Germany on March 11th with speakers representing four of the eight clubs in the zone.

1st place:  Arielle De Traz represented the Mahone Bay Area Lions Club spoke on The Art of Eating. .  She is a grade 12 student at the French School in Blockhouse. Arielle will represent zone 9 at the District Speakout in Kingston on April 25th.

2nd place; Jacob Oickle representing the New Germany Area Lions Club spoke on Problems of Today. Jacob is a student at New Germany Rural High.

3rd place: Mattea Jollymore-Hall representing the Chester Basin/New Ross/Chester Lions Club spoke on Werewolves. She is a grade 9 student at New Ross Consolidated School.

4th place: Candace Langille representing the Liverpool Lions Club spoke on Going Green. She is a student at Liverpool Regional High School.


Latest membership numbers showed 180 Lions in zone 9.

OFFICIAL MINUTES OF ZONE 9 MEETING

MARCH 24, 2009

 

The third meeting for zone 9 was called to order by Zone Chairman Lion Dave Baugil in Martin’s River with the Lions Invocation.  The following clubs were in attendance:

 

BRIDGEWATER 3 members present            CHESTER BASIN/NEW ROSS/CHESTER 10 members present

LIVERPOOL   4 members present                 RIVERPORT 4 members present

MAHONE BAY 14 members present            NEW GERMANY 14 member present

                                                                                

Moved by King Lion Richard second by Secretary Carol to approve the minutes of the January 20th Zone meeting as circulated.  Motion carried.

 

BUSINESS ARISING: 

ZC Lion Dave asked for environmental pictures to be passed in to him.  Mahone Bay passed in a picture.

 

King Lion Frank Meister moved that the zone project for 2008-09 be a donation to the South Shore Regional Hospital toward the purchase of an automated stainer.  Motion second by King Lion Carolee Richardson.  Motion carried.

 

Zone Chairman Dave stated that there were 7 teams committed to date for the zone bowling to be held in Shelburne, and if there were any other teams they should get in contact with Shelburne ASAP.

 

CORRESPONDANCE: 

Zone Secretary asked every one to consider participating by reducing the use of energy during Earth Hour on March 28th.

 

MEMBERSHIP:

ZC Lion Dave reported that the zone had 180 members as of the February membership reports.  This number is still down for the zone and ZC Dave encouraged clubs to try to bring in at least 7 new members in total for the zone by year end to balance with the beginning of the year.

 

REPORTS: 

Clubs were asked to pass in reports and comment on what they accomplished since the last meeting.

 

NOMINATION FOR ZONE CHAIRMAN 2009-2010

King Lion Nancy nominated Lion David Baugil for a second year as Zone Chairman second by Acting Secretary Brenda Morrison.  Secretary Gary Langille moved nominations cease, second by King Lion Richard.  Motion carried.

  

ZONE PROJECT 2009-2010

Moved by King Lion Nancy Veinot and second by acting secretary Pat that the zone participates in a Zone Project next year by selling tickets on a boat donated by John Biebesheimer of Mahone Bay.  All proceeds are to go to Bonny Lea Farm.  Motion carried.  Mahone Bay will look after getting the license etc.

 

NEXT ZONE MEETING:

ZC Dave reminded everyone that the next zone meeting will be held in Shelburne June 13th and will be the Zone fun night.  Meeting is to start at 6:00pm

 

DISTRICT GOVERNOR REQUEST:

ZC Dave asked every club to respond to the request that the District Governor will have in the next NS Lion.  He will use this information for the MD Convention regarding the dues increase.

 

TAIL TWISTERS:

6 tail twisters gave a very colorful story, but New Germany’s tail twister won the vote as the best joke for the second time this year. ZC Lion Dave presented her with a lion’s glass once again.

 

REMINDERS:  

1.      Nominating committees should be activity completing their slate of officers for 2009-2010.

2.      NS Convention Apr. 24th – 26th, 2009 in Kingston , should have your voting delegates and alternatives sent to CST Gordie

3.      MD Convention May 16th – 18th, 2009 in Truro if you are going please send your delegates and alternates to CST Gordie soon.

4.      Lions Awareness Month is April - Think of something to do in your community.

5.      Remember to file your PU101 no later than May 15th to DG and VDG as well as International.

6.      Installation of officers for 2009-2010 please let me know when you are doing this if you wish me to do the installation.

7.      Officers schools in our area will be held May 9th in Sackville, June 6th in Mahone Bay, June 20th in Alysford, please send your incoming president, secretary, treasurer, and membership chairman.  Also your first vice president if they plan to move up next year.

8.      Please think about getting your books audited at year end.

9.      Secretaries should be preparing to fill the form for best president, secretary, rookie of the year, president excellent award, etc. Secretaries should also be ordering their pins and awards from International as there will be a waiting period for these at year end.

CSFII AWARD Zone Chairman David Baugil presented a district top five club Campaign Sight II banner patch to Lion Debbie Stevens, president of the Chester Basin/New Ross/Chester Lions Club..


BEST ZONE TROPHY 2008-09:  PCC Mike Gibbons presented the Best Zone trophy to Zone Chairman David Baugil..  


ZONE 9 PROJECT: Zone Chairman David Baugil presented a $11,327.31 cheque to Jane Rafuse, Bonny Lea Farm, The eight clubs in zone 9 all participated in the sail boat raffle as a fund-raiser for Bonny Lea Farm, a facility for special needs adults in Chester. 


LIONS FOUNDATION OF CANADA AWARD:  PDG Charles Uhlman presented the LFC trophy to PKL Frank Meiste of the Chester Basin/New Ross/Chester Lions Club.  . The award is for the largest contribution per member to LCI for clubs in N.. 


N2 Foundation Award: PDG Lou Thurber presenbted the Lions N2 Foundation award to PKL Nancy Veinot of the New Germany Area Lions Club. This award is for the largest per member contribution  tothe  Foundation during 2008-09. ..


LION OFV THE YEAR: PDG Gordie Johnston  presentedd the Lion of the Year award to CB/NR/C Lion Sharon Rafuse.


BEST PRESIDENT: KL Richard Nowe of the Mahone Bay Area Lions Club received the 2008-09 Best President awrd. PID Jim Sherry presented the award to Lion Mary Isnor.


BEST CLUB BULLETIN:  PDG Sharon Dykman presented the Best Bulletin  award to Lion Carol Morash of the Shelburne & Area Lions Club.
