ZONE 9-OFFICIAL MINUTES
THIRD ZONE MEETING
MARCH 18TH, 2008

Meeting was called to order by Zone Chairperson Lion Sandra Zwicker at 7:50 p.m. at the Riverport District Lions Club dinner meeting held in the Riverport Community Center.

Lions Invocation was led by CB/NR/C President Art Stevens.

Lion Nancy Veinot, District Hearing and Speech Chairman, introduced guest speaker Harry Hughes. He gave a presentation on the impact of hearing impairment on every day living and informed Lions on ways to prevent damaging our hearing. Constant noise levels can cause damage over a period of time. He pointed out various noise levels normally found in our homes. Lion Nancy and ZC Sandra thanked guest speaker for his presentation.

ZC Lion Sandra Zwicker informed the clubs of the following:

1) Elect Board of Directors for 2008-2009
2)Officers School for Incoming Officers:

April 5th - Milford
April 12th - Kingston
May 3rd - Liverpool
May 10th - Lake Echo

3) Submit Pu101 Form to: Lions International by May 15th and to the VDG as early as possible.
4) Lions Awareness Month is April.
5) Lions Family Month is May.
6) Eyeglass Recycle for Sight Month is May.

ZC Lion Sandra read a message from PDG Evie about the District Project, "It's All About Eyes". This is a short term project to be completed by Dec. 31st, 2008. Several clubs in Zone 9 have already made pledges and PDG Evie would like for all others to highly consider supporting this worth while project.

ZC Lion Sandra asked for nominations from the floor for:

- Zone Chairman for 2008-2009. None were received.
-Director for District N2 Foundation 2008-2009 and 2009-2010.

Moved by Lion Gary Langille / Seconded by Lion Art Stevens to nominate Lion Carolee Richardson, of the Bridgewater Lions Club. Lion Carolee has accepted the position of Director for District N2 Foundation for the two year period. CARRIED

CLUB REPORTS: All clubs handed in written reports and verbal reports were given by all clubs except Bridgewater.

ZC Lion Sandra informed the clubs that Lion Martin Fudge of the Shelburne Area Lions Club competed for Team Nova Scotia Floor Hockey at the 2008 National Special Olympics Winter Games in Quebec City. They brought home the Silver Medal. Congratulations Lion Martin from all of Zone 9.

ZC Lion Sandra informed the clubs of the following dates to remember:

1) District Governor Visits in Zone 9:

March 25th, Mahone Bay
April 14th, Liverpool

2) Zone Speak-Out March 31st, in Liverpool. Lion Bob Trainor said he will need the speaker's names and the number of guests, by Tuesday March 25th. There will be three speakers. Lion Bob Trainor indicated the Liverpool Lions Club would be subsidizing the meal and the cost will be $8.00 per plate.

3) Zone Bowling - Sunday, April 13th. It was noted that Riverport Club had not received the original notice, but they can still put in a team if they wish to do so. CB/NR/C was asked if they had a team, but their members had other commitments.

4) Friendship Night/Diabetes Cavalcade Thurs, April17th held in Canning.

5) District N2 Convention April 25th – 27th in Amherst.

6) Regional Leadership Institute at Scotian Glen Camp is May 2nd - 4th. PDG Lion Charlie stated there are 36 participants registered for the Institute. (13 from N1 and 23 from N2).

7)Multiple District N Convention: May 16-19 in Charlottetown.

8) Zone 9 Fun Night: May 24th, in Shelburne.

PDG Charles presented Lions Quest Patches to Bridgewater and Liverpool.

Lion Gary Langille, Chairperson, Campaign SightFirst II, thanked all the clubs in Zone 9 for participating in the campaign.

Lion Gary Langille held a Chinese Auction and raised approximately $100.00 for the Lions Foundation of Nova Scotia.

Motion to adjourn was made by Lion Art Stevens at 9:10 p.m.

PEACE POSTER WINNER: Chairman, Lion Tanis Bryson presented a place plaque to KL John Cook of the Riverport & District Lions Club. Natalie Knickle of Center Consolidated school was the 3rd place winner in the N-2 Peace Poster Contest.


LIONS QUEST BANNER PATCH: At the 3rd zone meeting held at Riverport, PDG Charles Uhlman, Lions Quest coordinator, presented KL George Mitchell of the Liverpool Lions Club with a banner patch in recognition of that club's financial contribution to the Lions Quest workshops.


SPECIAL OLYMPIAN: Lion Martin Fudge, Shelburne Area Lions Club. proudly displays the silver medal the Nova Scotia floor hockey team won at the recent Winter Special Olympics.

PEACE POSTER WINNER: Chairman, Lion Tanis Bryson presented a plaque and cheque to Lion Bob Trainor of the Liverpool Lions Club. Cassidy Pye, sponsored by the Liverpool Club, was the 1st place winner in the N-2 Peace Poster Contest. Her poster will now go to the MD "N"contest in Charlottetown in May.
